Follow Trail No. 8 crossing Zielbach River up through the forest to the Rifugio Nassereto (Nassereithütte) montain hut (1523m). Then continue on Trail No. 8, passing the Gingglalm alpine pasture, up to the Zielalm alpine pasture (2,196 m; food and drinks) and further on to the Rifugio Cima Fiammante (Lodnerhütte) mountain hut (2,260m; open only in summer, overnight accommodations available); about 4 hours from Birkenwald Restaurant.
You can stay overnight at Rifugio Cima Fiammante (Lodnerhütte). Open from 25 June to 30 September.
Day 2 – From Rifugio Cima Fiammante (Lodnerhütte) to the summit of Monte Rosso (Rotegg) and descent
From there continue briefly up to the fork in the path, where you turn left and follow signs for Roteck on Trail No. 9, which is steep, to another fork. Keep right at the fork and wind through grassy slopes up to the grassy hollow (Schafbank) and continue on the quite easy and well marked eastern ridge over boulders and rocks. Then climb down a narrow notch using fixed ropes and iron pins and then to the opposite side using an iron chain. From there, it's an easy hike to the final short ridge before reaching the summit (3337m; 3.5 hours from the hut). Descent: Return using the same trail.
Not difficult for well trained, sure-footed hikers who have no fear of heights and mountaineering experience. Reservations for overnight accomodations at the Rifugio Cima Fiammante (Lodnerhütte) mountain hut are advised.
