Characteristics: the lower section of the via ferrata Pisciadù twists and turns on a sloping terrain, while the higher section is steep and partly exposed. All the difficult passages are equipped with iron steps and fixtures that serve as support. The distance between the supports is short which adds a safety factor during the high season, as the Pisciadù ferrata is frequently used.
Access to the via ferrata: from the car-park (sign-posted) walk in a easterly direction. Go up the incline with mountain pines until the beginning of a secured gap with steel cable and iron steps, then proceed along the path in a South-East direction until the beginning of the via ferrata.
Technical details: rather challenging via ferrata completely secured by steel cables, stairs, numerous steps and iron foot-holds to get past difficult sections.
Path type: 98% steel cables, 2% stairs, exposed path, path.
Complete gradient of climb: 610 m, 2:00-2:30 hours.
Complete gradient until the beginning of the ferrata: 120m, 40 mins.
Gradient of the ferrata: 395 m, 1:20-2:00 hours.
Gradient from the end of the ferrata Rifugio Franco Cavazza al Pisciadù: 95 m, 20 mins.
Descent: on a spacious path, head in the direction of the furnicular, then along the steel cables end up in the Val Setus gorge and end up at the starting point, 1:30-1:45 hours to the car-park.
Public transport services from Bolzano to Passo Gardena-Grödnerjoch or with the train to Ponte Gardena-Waidbruck and then the bus to Passo Gardena.
From Val Gardena you can get to Passo Gardena, and from here go down a short stretch on the other side and you will arrive at a big car-park at a turning point, or from Cordvara towards Passo Gardena.
