Characteristics of the via ferrata: The Valdaora ferrata is short and not particularly difficult. A long climb and descent towards the beginning of the via ferrata in an isolated area. It is always a beautiful walk for Alpinists who can marvel at the magnificent panorama, silence and unique views. It is walkable only in sunny conditions. But be careful! It is north-facing so at the beginning of spring there might still be some residual snow especially on the path that leads to the beginning of the via ferrata.
Access to the via ferrata: walk behind the hotel and you will find the first signpost. Walk along path n.20/61 and you will reach the Ried hut and from there walk along path n.20 (signposted) towards Pra delle Vacche hut. At the small cross-roads in front of the Monte Pra delle Vacche go towards the signposted Valdaora ferrata. (Olanger Klettersteig). Cross the grassy slope (marked in red) and finally walk across the rocks and you will reach the beginning of the ferrata.
Type of the course: 100% steel cables.
Complete gradient of the climb: 1,053 m, 3:30 hours.
Gradient until the beginning of the via ferrata: 785 m, 2:30 hours.
Gradient of the ferrata: 140m, 0:45-1:00 hour
Gradient to the summit: 128 m, 15-30 mins.
Descent: from the summit of the Colli Alti, a path takes you down towards the Braies/Pragser Furkel crossroads, 2,225 m (red signpost near the stone wall) and climb down the steep fields. From the crossroad (signpost n.61) reach the Casera di Braies along a steep path and return to the lake following path n.61, 2 hours.
