Characteristics of the via ferrata: A very steep and challenging path with steel cables in the higher parts, two sets of steps on the exposed sides, and at the end of the second set of steps a lot of strength is required. The steel cables are not in an excellent condition (protruding cables= danger of hand injury). Due to the via ferrata’s twists and turns on the south side, it is possible to hike it already at the beginning of summer (after lots of snowfall in the winter there is water from the melted ice that comes down from summit’s plateau) and also in late autumn (but only on sunny days).
Access to the via ferrata: from the upstream station (signpost for the via ferrata is also visible) go down for a short stretch and at the crossroads (signposted), on the left, begins the via ferrata at 2,560 m.
Technical details: short via ferrata, completely secured with steel cables, due climbs that are extremely steep and exposed at the steps and difficult from the second set of steps.
Type of the path: 95% steel cables, 5% steps.
Complete gradient of the climb: 380 m, 2-2:30 hours
Complete gradient until the beginning of the via ferrata: 30 m, 20 mins.
Gradient of the ferrata: 190 m, 1:00-1:30 hours.
Gradient to the summit: 160 m, 30 mins.
Descent: from the Piz da Lech summit, 2,910 m, descend along the normal route (with red signs). The last short steep stretch of the descent is secured with metal cable and fixed with steel; 1:30 hours.
