Alpine trail in Sesto
In the border area between Austria and Italy, a fairly easy via ferrata (mainly A/B, key section C) leads along the flank of the Elferkofel s peak. The alpine via ferrata is one of the absolute classics of the Dolomites, not because of its demanding route, but because of its fantastic view. Furthermore, you ll discover numerous historical war sites on the approximately 16 km long tour. The Italian mountain fighters "Alpini", after whom the trail is named, once chose this path during the First World War to recapture the Elfer, which was occupied by Austrian troops. Accordingly, the trail is divided into an Austrian part (up to Elferscharte) and an Italian part (Elferscharte to Inneres Loch). This tour is suitable for anyone with sufficient experience in alpine terrain. Most of the time it is more of a secured high-altitude trail, the real key section we find right at the beginning during the ascent via the Austrian part (up to C).
