The Renon (Ritten) themed trail
The Renon Theme Trail unites earth pyramids, a wonderful panoramic view, and a ride on a narrow-gauge railway
At the mountain station of the Renon Cable Car, go left to Via della Piscina (Schwimmbadweg) and follow the signposts for the Sentiero Tematico (Rittner Themenweg) Trail. Go west on Trail No. 23, marked red and white. Continue on the paved Kaiserweg, which was one of the most important roads connecting north and the south during the Roman occupation. Follow a few turns down through the forest to a vast meadow that is borded by a ditch. The earth pyramids, created by the soil movements caused by great glaciers during the Ice Age, are located right below the escarpment. At the end of the meadow, follow the broad trail up the hill (signposted: Moar im Loch) and subsequently leading to the Chapels of Saint George and Saint Jacob, located on top of the hill, in the woods. The keys for the chapels are available at the tourist office near the train station in Sopra Bolzano (Oberbozen).
