Dobbiaco Lake Nature Trail
Between two nature parks, an educational hike around Lake Dobbiaco.
From the settlement of Saghäuser towards the lake. The path, which runs through a sparse mixed forest, orographically runs to the left along the Rienz. Soon you reach the northern end of the lake, where the nature trail laid out by the nature park office begins on the right-hand side. The entertaining hike leads to the southern end of the lake and through an interesting wetland to the opposite shore. Along the old railway line Dobbiaco-Cortina you return to the starting point. Lake Dobbiaco lies exactly on the border between two nature parks: the Sesto Dolomites Nature Park and the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park. The small mountain lake was formed by numerous rock falls that blocked the valley and dammed the water of the Rienz, which is the inflow and outflow. Lake Dobbiaco is also one of the few trickle fields (wetlands) that exist in the Alps. The nature trail around the lake comprises eleven stations that invite visitors to actively discover nature.
