Into the thundering gorge
From Wolfsthurn Castle into the Achenrain Gorge and via the "cat's ladder" up to Gasse to the Chapel of St. Magdalena

Starting from Mareit, walk along a well-secured path past Wolfsthurn Castle, close to the Fernerbach stream and into the gorge. Then you climb in serpentines to a hill where the old path begins. From here you have wonderful views down to the roaring stream. The new „cat's ladder" leads to a section of path where ancient dry stone walls from the time of ore mining can be seen on the mountain and valley sides. Then you reach the large quarry area. There the path winds upwards. You look across to the other side of the valley with the silent hills. A beautiful old forest path finally leads up to the forest road, which leads to the scattered settlement of „Gasse". From here the tour leads up the hill on mark 7A, past the Plankmessner to the picturesquely situated miners' church of St. Magdalena in Ridnaun. The chapel was built during the heyday of the Schneeberg mine. Follow trail no. 9 back to the starting point in Mareit.
