Via Francigena: Robbio - Mortara

This hiking day in the province of Pavia takes again place in the rice cultivation area Lomellita around Vercelli. Why not take the opportunity to visit one of the establishments here focussing on treating the raw rice, storing and loading it on trucks or trains. The Lomelitta is like a large production facility, the rice fields with their elaborated irrigation system represent the assets, and harvesting represents the annual income. No surprise that «Risotto» is a popular, Italian meal.
On our trail, we will come across Nicorvo where we can find food and beverages. Just before entering this village, we will cross the river Argogna, which supplies the water for most of the rice fields in this area. At our destination Mortara, we will find the church «di San Valeriano» which once was part of a monastery The roman church «di San Pietro» dating back to the 12th century is known because of its frescos dating back to the 16th century.
