The first stage of our two-day tour leads us steadily downhill to Merano on well-maintained paths. We pass numerous villages and can let the South Tyrolean landscape take its effect on us.

We start our mountain bike tour in Mals, which is the second largest municipality in South Tyrol in terms of area. Leaving the village, we enjoy the view of the Spitzige Lun (2324 m), which the inhabitants of Mals call their local mountain. We then cycle on to Glurns. With just under 900 inhabitants, it is one of the smallest towns in the entire Alpine region. The completely preserved town wall characterises the townscape and gives it a medieval flair. On the way we pass Laas. This village gained worldwide fame with its Laas marble. For example, the Schiller Monument in Dresden was made of this valuable material. Finally, we arrive at the medieval town of Laas. Finally we arrive at our first stage destination, Merano. The city owes its Mediterranean climate to its basin location and the mountain ranges of the Texel Group, which protect it from precipitation and cold winds. There we end the evening in a cosy South Tyrolean atmosphere.
