The long tour impresses with flowing trails with some challenging passages and a fantastic panorama. However, this enjoyment must first be earned on the sometimes long and steep climbs.

Right at the beginning there is a constant uphill. A long stretch at the end takes a lot of energy. We are rewarded with a beautiful, at times quite demanding trail and impressive views of Wengen's local mountains Neuner and Zehner. But the next climb is not long in coming. Across the Armentara meadows, the route is steep and strenuous on gravel paths up to the famous pilgrimage church Heiligkreuz-Hospiz. But we gladly accept this for the long, flowing trail down from the hospice. A last beautiful trail section from the church of St. Barbara above Wengen rounds off our tour in a worthy manner.

Destination

Car park at the junction of the road to St. Martin in Thurn

Turn-by-turn directions

From the car park we ride briefly on the main road towards Bruneck, but soon turn off onto a smaller road to Picolin. We take the asphalted trail no. 21 to Gran Ju. From here we continue on gravel, always following trail no. 15 up to the Pra de Rit plateau. Before this trail leads downhill towards Wengen, we turn onto trail no. 15b. After a steep pushing passage up to the Jägerhütte, we descend on the flowing, but in the meantime challenging trail no. 13 until we meet a gravel path. We follow this up to the Armentara meadows and continue uphill, partly steeply, to the Heiligkreuz hospice (2045 m). After a stop for refreshments and a visit to the church, we continue uphill for a short while on trail no. 15b, before descending on a trail that is demanding at first, then flowing nicely, to the gravel path that we already met after our first trail descent. On the trail, please be considerate of hikers who are on pilgrimage to the pilgrimage church. We continue downhill on partly asphalted, partly gravelled paths to St. Barbara Church. Here, too, it is worth a visit. A final trail section follows soon after the church. Then we descend via Wengen into the Gadertal valley. In between on the main road, otherwise on gravel paths more or less parallel to the road, we ride back to the car park in St. Martin in Thurn.
