Steep forest road
This route is better enjoyed if ridden clockwise! The section through the Valle del Vanoi unfolds on nice secondary paved roads. A steep forest road leads the two huts of Fossernica with a short hike-a-bike section. The downhill to Caoria on an old mule track is steep and very slippery after rainfall. Food stops are the Rifugio Refavaie and the Fossernica di Fuori shepherd’s hut.

Here nature hasn’t lost its harmony; the Valle del Vanoi is the green heart of the Dolomites and is one of the few areas where flora and fauna remain essentially untouched. the wedge-shaped valley is surrounded by the Lagorai peaks. the highest peak, the cima d’Asta, is a huge granite block that reaches the awe-inspining elevation of 2847 m. this tour offers plenty of opportunity for quiet and solitary time. Itinerary description Set off from ➊ canal San Bovo (753 m); taking the road in the direction of the Valle del Vanoi to the fork ➋, turn left here and follow the signs for MtB route n. 262, cross the bridge and at the ➌ Giaroni crossing turn and ascend the valley. on the left side of the valley continue to caoria, and at the end of the village ➍ cross the bridge and pass to the other side of the valley; continue to the ➎ Rifugio Refavaie (1116 m). At the bridge just before the refuge keep to the left and drop into the valley ➏ to the crossing, then turn right onto MtB route n.
