From the centre of Fondo, take Via San Martino, past the church, to the junction with the main road that leads to the Gampen Pass. Cross the road to reach Lake Smeraldo after a short descent. Follow the road down into the valley past the ice rink for 2.5 km to the crossroads and keep left (signposted Malga di Fondo; gravel road uphill). There is another crossroads at km 7.5. After a few minutes you would reach Malga di Fondo on the left, but this tour continues directly towards Gantkofel. After 12 km, after a slight climb, there is a crossroads (village of Muri 1780 m), keep left (north-east) and after a short climb you will finally reach the summit of the Gantkofel (12.9 km) .   Run back along the ascent path for the first 700 m, then turn left onto a path that leads down through meadows (13.7 km).
