The route starts at the Europahaus in Mayrhofen, from here you follow the road towards Peter-Habeler-Straße to Kumbichl and on to Oberkumbichl. The route after passing through the village starts with a challenging part. Past the Mauthütte, the route continues uphill on the asphalt road. The trees on both sides provide pleasantly cool shade at the beginning of the route. Numerous fountains lie along the way and offer the opportunity to refill the water bottle. Through a short tunnel you come to the dam crest of the reservoir and immediately reach the Wasserfall inn. Then follows a long flat section past the reservoir to the mouth of the stream. After a short ascent, you pass the Stillupperhaus inn before the final ascent on a well-maintained road to the Grüne-Wand hut or to the material cable car of the Kasseler hut. This is particularly steep on the last few minutes of the ride and therefore very demanding.

Author’s recommendation

The Stillup reservoir is one of the four reservoirs in the Zillertal and all reservoirs are connected with each other. Electricity is generated from here by rushing the water from the reservoir to Mayrhofen in pipes where turbines are driven.

Turn-by-turn directions

Wonderful route with flat sections, many fountains, streams and waterfalls along the way!Route No. 470 starts at the Europahaus in Mayrhofen, from here you follow the road towards Peter-Habeler-Strasse to Kumbichl (above the Ahornbahn) and on to Oberkumbichl. The route after passing through the village starts with a challenging part. Past the Mauthütte, the route continues uphill on the asphalt road. The trees on both sides provide pleasantly cool shade at the beginning of the route. Numerous fountains lie along the way and offer the opportunity to refill your water bottle. From the Lacknerbrunn inn, the alpine pastures begin. Accompanied by the ringing of cowbells, you drive further and further into the valley. Through a short tunnel you come to the dam crest of the reservoir and immediately reach the Wasserfall inn. From here on, only shuttle bus traffic and mountain farmers are to be expected, as the road is completely closed to public traffic. Then follows a long flat section past the reservoir to the mouth of the stream. After a short climb, you pass the Stillupperhaus inn before the final climb on a well-maintained road to the Grüne Wand hut or to the material cable car of the Kasseler hut. This is particularly steep on the last few minutes of the ride and therefore very demanding. The way back is identical to the way there.
