Steep uphill, steep downhill
This MTB tour on the Penegal mountain requires endurance for the climb and a healthy dose of courage for the descent. It makes for a sporty tour.

Start in Kaltern (Caldaro) and ride to Klavenz via Mitterdorf. Continue towards Oberplanitzing to the junction with the main road to the Mendel (Mendola) pass. Next comes a 15km climb to the Mendel pass. First you reach the Kalterer Höhe guesthouse, then Matschatsch and after some tight bends and 9 hairpins you reach the peak of the pass at 1365m. Shortly below the Mendel pass, turn off right towards the Penegal and climb the barely used asphalt road to the Penegal viewpoint (vertical climb 350m). Continue on the signed path towards Furglauer Schlucht/Prinzwiesen. This is where the trail fun begins: flowing descents interspersed with some small climbs. At the junction with the Furglauer Schlucht keep riding towards the Prinzwiesen (Bait del Prinz). Turn right there and follow path no.546. After a short climb that will demand the last of your energy reserves, the downhill begins. Path 545 – also known as "Neuer Weg" – requires concentration, technique and strength. After a drop
