Nova Ponente - Maria Weisenstein
"Ora et labora" - pray and work. Although the religious rule comes from the Cistercians, the Servites of the Maria Weißenstein Monastery will certainly agree with the literal sense. When you leave Jochgrimm, you can see the monastery in the distance just before the last mountain pasture on the right. Involuntarily you have to admit to yourself: "Yes, this is a good place to live and pray. Well, and you can also work against boredom.
The baroque monastery, South Tyrol's most important place of pilgrimage, lies at an altitude of 1520 m in a secluded location near Deutschnofen on the Regglberg plateau and is inhabited by the Fathers of the Servite Order. Although decency forbids a visit in sweaty bike clothing, the view of the exterior is also impressive. A few years ago, the descent to the monastery from the Jochgrimm was a wonderful alpine path. Today it is gravelled. Hikers and beginners are happy about this. Probably even the picture-book panorama on the Jochgrimm with Latemar, Rosengarten and Schlern will stick longer. After all, you don't have to focus on technical riding finesse right away.
