Through the mountains Riding bikes in the mountains doesn’t always have to be tough, but certainly requires a certain level of physical effort. This particular tour can easily be done with kids. The entire ride unfolds on well sign-posted paved roads with the exception of a few dirt-road sections. Also, in the summer months, there is a shuttle bus that runs back to Cortina.
Between 1921 and 1964 the cadore and Val Pusteria were connected by a railway service, initially operated with steam locomotives. this important line moved up to 7000 people per day during the 1956 Winter olympics. the cortina – calalzo stretch forms the second part of the “Lunga Via delle Dolomiti”, the long route of the Dolomites. the 36 km descent on this gorgeous bicycle path will provide a load of fun for the entire family. the extraordinary peaks of the Dolomites will impress and inspire anyone passing through the Bòite Valley, the old railway stations, viaducts and the old, lit tunnels.
From the bus station in ➊ cortina (1220 m) descend into the valley on the sign-posted bicycle path; before the old station ➋ in Acquabona (1120 m) leave the bicycle path to the right and briefly pass through the business park, heading toward S. Vito. Remaining on the bicycle path, pass the ➌ Albergo Dogana Vecchia (1117 m), cross the villages of ➍ S. Vito di cadore
