Crossing the Uina Gorge by mountain bike
This tour, which is particularly demanding in terms of fitness, takes us from Vinschgau through the spectacular Uinaschlucht gorge into the Lower Engadin and back over the Pass da Costainas. Fantastic panoramic views ranging from the Sesvenna group to the Silvretta and the distant Ötztal Alps, and exciting, partly technically difficult, partly enjoyable trails reward us for the long, sweaty climbs.

Distance 79.7 km
The first 900 metres of ascent through the lovely Schliniger Tal valley are relatively relaxed. But from the Schliniger Alm the path becomes increasingly steeper, until soon we are only able to move forward by pushing. Passing the Sesvennah, the last flat stretch leads to the Schlinigpass. Here we have made the first long climb and a varied trail awaits us down towards the Uina gorge. Pushing we pass the spectacular gorge gallery blasted into the rock, before we roll relaxed through the Val d'Uina down into the Lower Engadine. Already in Scuol, however, the next long climb begins. Through the wild and romantic Val S-charl, the path climbs steadily up towards the Pass da Costainas. Finally, a dreamlike, not too difficult trail leads us over the pass. Still accompanied by an overwhelming panorama, the final stretch more or less follows the course of the Rambach back into Vinschgau. Almost unnoticed on our tour, we also circle the highest peak of the Sesvenna Group, the Piz Sesvenna.

Safety information
The crossing of the Uina Gorge requires surefootedness and a head for heights. The trail is very exposed in places. There is a danger of falling if you make a mistake!
Due to the length of the tour (approx. 80 km and a good 2600 metres of altitude), a very early start is absolutely essential. Bikers who are not extremely well trained should split the tour into two days and spend the night in Scuol, for example.
