In winter, Cortina d'Ampezzo is one of the most renowned tourist resorts in the Alps. This clearly has an impact on the price level of this region. In summer, however, mountain bikers also benefit from the excellent access to the surrounding mountains. Bike tourism is actively promoted here, all buses take bikes to the individual starting points and all mountain railways allow the transport of mountain bikes. The infrastructure is exemplary and the services leave nothing to be desired. The conditional character of our tour is rather in the background here and is additionally defused a little by the use of a cable car. First and foremost, the technical challenges of this tour are interesting, we move on a level of up to S3 and see ourselves additionally challenged with a carrying passage. The descents of the tour can be assigned to different categories, from beautiful cart tracks to flowing trails and exposed paths, the most diverse demands await us.

Author’s recommendation

During the First World War (1915 - 1918), Austrian and Italian troops fought bloody battles across the Alps. The front stretched for 360 kilometres through South Tyrol and in places reached an altitude of 3,900 metres. The impassable mountainous landscape of the front had to be made accessible for troops and material for the most part. For this reason, a large number of paths were created that lead to equally bizarre and stunningly beautiful places in the Alps. Thanks to professional development and the painstaking restoration of numerous trail sections, these historic military trails are a cultural and scenic highlight of this tour.
