Difficult but rewarding, the tour around the Sasso Lungo
Photo: Martin Braito
Distance 42.9 km
Around the mountain. One of the most famous massifs in the Dolomites is surely the Langkofel group. Its peaks look especially imposing when seen from the Seiser Alm. The sight of the 3181m, the Sella massif to the east and the Rosengarten group to the south west truly burns itself into your memory.
No wonder that this bike tour is one of the highlights of the Gardena Dolomites. For endurance riders who can 'sleep-ride' down single trails, there's nothing standing in the way of enjoying the 1600m vertical climb. Warning! Lots of traffic on the short road sections to the Gardena pass and from the entrance to the Durontal valley (shuttle bus service in the summer months) to the Micheluzzi-Hütte.
➊ 1600m, sports ground in Wolkenstein, take the Grödner-Joch-Straße to the lower station of the Piz Sella cable car ➋ 1800m, ride up the steep gravel road to path no. 657 and past the Malga del Sella ➌ 2110m, head towards the Sella pass until the Sellajoch-Haus ➍ 2170m, take the testing single trail to the Rifugio Valentini ➎ 2220m, first descent of the tour, after the 'baita' called Crepes de Sella ➏ descend to the asphalt road, continue to the Albergo Lupo Bianco hotel, after approx. 100m take a sharp right onto ➐ trail no. 655 and descend to Canazei, continue
