Up the Rotwand and through the Balschtekar
With its 1,200 m of altitude, the tour is not without its physical challenges, but it is easily manageable. Once you have made the steep ascent to the Rotwand, it is over with the exception of a few ups and downs and you can cross the Balschtekar to the Hermann von Barth hut in relative comfort. The Rotwand itself is a typical Lechtal mountain with steep, grassy (except at the summit itself, where it is rocky) flanks. Overall, the trail is not exposed, but steep and can be a little slippery when it is wet. In the upper part of the summit there is a rocky passage that is well secured with steel ropes and can be easily negotiated. However, surefootedness and a head for heights are essential. A fabulous view awaits us at the summit. Down in the valley we can see the lovely Lech valley and all around us the rugged, rocky Hornbach chain with its many peaks;
