This hike runs along the Valfredda though the Alps passing the Rifugio Vedrette di Ries and from there to the summit. The route is free from ice and follows a marked footpath. The ascent is not difficult and can be attempted by reasonably fit hikers

From Campo Tures follow the road to Riva di Tures for about 8 kilometres to the small car park by the sawmill (1,525 m). Continue southwards on route 3 along the Valfredda - Gelttal and the stream, passing several mountain huts; the higher one (Innere Gelttal-Alm, 2,070 m) provides an area for refreshments. Further up on boulders and scree we reach the Rifugio Vedrette di Ries - Rieserfernerhütte - (2,800 m, 3.5 hours). After an overnight stay we walk up a zigzag path on scree and boulders following the red-and-white marked route bordered with stone figures; at the intersection with the glacier (approx. 3,000 m), we turn left onto the southern ridge to reach the summit (3,126 m; 1 hour from the refuge). Return via the same route (3.5 hours).
