Much more than a «beautiful summit»

On the road to Stelvio, turn off at the junction of Gomagoi towards Solda (1,844 m). Route 5 is a moderately steep footpath that runs north eastwards along the Zay Valley up to the Rifugio Serristori - Düsseldorfer Hütte (2,724 m, 2:5 hours). We will walk up following the marked «Hinteres Schöneck» route to the west rocky side. The steep but not difficult climb is equipped with fixed ropes in some exposed sections and leads to the summit (3,128 m; 1.5 hours from the refuge). We will walk down a narrow ridge initially, and then on the steep slope of the «Dossobello di Fuori», turning right and descending along grazing land to reach the Kälberhütte chalet (2,248 m, with restaurant; 2 hours from the summit). Both route 18 and route 19 will take us down through the woods to Sulden. (one hour from the mountain hut).
