The Cima Monte Luco - Laugenspitze is unique among the surrounding mountains due to the colour of the rock (red porphyry). The mountain dominates the Val d'Adige, the Val d'Ultimo and the Val di Non, providing outstanding views.

From Merano-Meran we go to the lower terminal of the Merano 2000 cable car. From high up above (1,500 m, hotels) we start on a large path and then follow route K (towards Kirchsteigerscharte), which goes up to the col (Oswaldscharte on some maps) and the nearby Kuhleiten restaurant (2,360 m, 1.5). We continue on the marked route to the east side of the mountain. The via ferrata begins about 50 metres below the Kleiner Ifinger Peak, crosses the north side, and is equipped with fixed ropes. After the last col we descend southwards to cross the final section (some vertical sections are equipped with metal chains), and reach the summit (2,581 m, about 1 hour from the Kuhleiten). Return via the same route (2 hours).
