We hike along the Ultener Höfewweg past rustic old mountain farms. The weathered shingle roofs and dark wooden beams of the houses are today witnesses of an old, agriculturally shaped culture.

The Ultener Höfeweg leads us from St. Nikolaus in the Ulten Valley to the Edelweiß inn below St. Gertraud. As we pass numerous ancient mountain farms, we can get an idea of the old rural culture in the idyllic Ulten Valley. In addition to a distinctive cultural landscape, we also pass a very special natural monument, namely the primeval larches. The age of these giant trees is estimated at around 2000 years. In the meantime, the Ulten primitive alpine trees have been declared a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. Passing the Klapfberg waterfalls, we finally return to St. Nikolaus.
