Leg 5 of the Alta Via di Merano (Meraner Höhenweg) high trail runs from the maso Gelato (Eishof Alm) mountain refuge down to the floor of Val di Plan (Pfelderer Tal) Valley, to Gasthof Zeppichl.

The old Militärweg Trail (military trail), which goes steadily uphill, was built for mules carrying loads and leads to the little Eisjöchl notch at 2,895 m. The towering summits of the Gruppo di Tessa (Texelgruppe) Mountains are nothing less than majestic from here: You can practically reach out and touch Hohe Weiße Peak (3,278 metres). The trail winds down in switchbacks to the Maso Lasins (Lazinser Alm) pastures.  The Gruppo di Tessa (Texelgruppe) Mountains are behind us; the world of mountain farmers lies ahead. In approximately 6 hours we reach the Gasthof Zeppichl.
