Breath-taking landscape of the north side of the mountain mass comprising Cima Presanella and Cima Vermiglio. A destination both for experts looking for a new challenge or for tourists eager to capture the beauty of the alpine lakes and the awe-inspiring and amazing scenery.

Author’s recommendation

Only 5 minutes distance from the alpine hut you reach the gorge and the small but very characteristic Lago Denza (2.314m). From Rifugio Denza it is possible to reach Cima Presanella (3.558m) following the rock face and surpassing the striking Sella Freshfield.

Turn-by-turn directions

E - Escursionistico (Hiker)

Departure point is the car park at Pozzi Alti (1.884m), reachable by way of an old military dirt road from Stavel in the village of Vermiglio. The 6.2km road is accessible to everybody and there is no need for a permit. If you wish to go on foot, take the SAT 233 which goes to the ex Austrian-Hungarian military fort (at one time used to defend Tonale) Forte Pozzi Alti (1h 30min). From the car park take the SAT 233 towards the dug-out tunnel in the rocks and some channels until crossing the SAT 206 which goes straight up to Stavel. Continue in the direction of Rifugio Stavel F. Denza (2.298m) which can be found directly below the north wall of the Cima Presanella (3.558m), the highest mountain in Trentino. The rifugio is of great historical interest concerning the First World War, and in particular the small wooden church.
