The mountain tour on the Sciliar is very interesting from a scenic and geological point of view. From the summit we enjoy a magnificent view of the near and far summit regions of the Dolomites.

With 56 hectares, the Alpe di Siusi is the largest alpine pasture area in Europe. It is accessible by several cable cars and lifts. The Alpe di Siusi cable car takes about 10 minutes to reach the plateau, but we only touch the southern edge of the Alpe di Siusi. On the ascent we soon reach a station on the Oswald von Wolkenstein Trail. This Oswald was an important knight in the late Middle Ages. The next stage takes us to the Schlernbödelehütte, a hut built in 1961 by the Bolzano section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club. It was built to replace the Schlernhaus, which had passed to an Italian association. From the summit of the Schlern, the Petz, you have a wonderful view. The following peaks and mountain groups, among others, come into view: Rosengarten, Puez, Geisler, Piz Boe. On the way back, we take the Geologensteig trail via the Possliner Schwaige. At 10 different stations we can look at the prevailing rock strata.

Author’s recommendation

The Possliner Schwaige is perfect for a short or longer break.
