From Cavalese over the Schwarzhorn

This tour is a technically easy but nevertheless long and therefore demanding round to the lonely peaks on the southern edge of the Dolomites. The varied paths run through sparse forests, mountain pine fields and over meadows covered with gentians. The highlight of the tour, however, are definitely the panoramic peaks, which offer magnificent views across to the snow-covered mountains of the Lagorai chain, the Latemar group and the Catinaccio. The steep southern slopes of the Schwarzhors show their wild side during the descent. Large rock scales seem to grow steeply upwards from the grassy base of the mountain. On these, in turn, isolated conifers have found their exclusive habitat. The rock of the Corno Nero (Italian for black horn) consists of reddish-grey Bolzano quartz porphyry. Therefore, the paths often glow in reddish hues, which, in contrast to the surrounding green and yellowish meadows, compose a fascinating landscape that resembles a painting.
