Beautiful walk on Mount Pagano in Val Camonica with breathtaking views that allow you to have a wide view of the Adamello and Mortirolo complex. On the top of the mountain, there is a second-line fortification from WWI, with a defensive perimeter that is still clearly visible.

Author’s recommendation

After reaching the fortification on the peak, it is possible to continue on the path on the ridge, thus enjoying the wonderful panorama. Go back to your liking.

Turn-by-turn directions

Once in the Village of Monno, take the road to the Mortirolo pass but continue towards San Giacomo. Park just before reaching San Giacomo near a small bridge (Ponte Palu). The path that goes up to Monte Pagano will be visible on the right. The climb begins between firs and larches, with beautiful views of meadows and alpine huts. Avoid (only initially) paths that branch off to the left towards Mortirolo and always follow the signs for Monte Pagano. Continue to climb always following the mule track. Note the military route with the many curves and precise reinforcement walls made with stones. The trees will become more rare and scattered, making room for shrubs and vast meadows. At this point we will begin to glimpse the rocky peak of Monte Pagano, and have a wide view over the valleys. Once you reach the top, it will be possible to have an excellent view of the Valle Camonica and the Adamello mountains.
