Simply good. The Schilcher shimmers rosé in the wine glasses, a wine with race and aromas such as currant, wild strawberry, raspberry, nettle and paprika. The blue Wildbacher grape has even more talents, also as a white wine that is pressed equally, as a sweet wine, invigorating sparkling wine and even as a strong red wine. The bewitchingly nutty pumpkin seed oil, the second icon of the Schilcherland, cuts just as well. The Ligist flower market is the ideal starting point for the Schilcher Wine Route. In 1664, Wolf Rudolf von Saurau made Schilcher socially acceptable when he brought the first 4,000 Schilcher sticks to Ligist. In 1970 the first Schilcher market was held in Ligist in order to make Schilcher famous far beyond the borders of western Styria. Mood makers are the Ligister Marktschilcher and the Klapotetz, the symbol of the wine country. THREADED LIKE ON A PEARL NECKLACE The road continues via Gundersdorf / St. Stefan up to Langegg / Greisdorf in the middle of the vineyards. A photo stop is the Hochgrail vineyard: one of the greatest locations for the Schilcher, but also a feast for the eyes, the picturesque cellar heels along the romantic road are so pretty, strung on a string of pearls. Incidentally, with a length of 1.5 kilometers, the Hochgrail offers the longest closed row of houses in Styria. Winegrowers and taverns invite you to taste and enjoy a hearty West Styrian snack at every corner. Via Marhof the journey goes down to the Archduke Johann Market in Stainz, where the splendid Stainz Castle greets you from afar. The colorful bottle train steams from the train station on a special trip through the Stainztal. Anyone interested in other means of transport can chug through the Schilcherland with the tractor audi. After a short drive through vineyards and orchards, you should try the medicinal water in Bad Gams or take a culinary stop in the largest vinegar cellar in Schilcherland, the Farmer-Rabensteiner world of adventure and enjoyment. And there is another highlight: a wonderful panoramic view from the vineyard control room.
