Hiking and pilgrimage.
The Way of St. James in South Tyrol is a section of the world-famous European pilgrimage route that leads to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

A very special pilgrimage route is the Way of St. James, which stretches from Winnebach in Alta Pusteria to the Brenner Pass in the Wipptal valley. There are 130 km and almost 3000 metres of altitude to cover. The Way of St. James is divided into 6 stages and each of them has very interesting Christian and secular testimonies of history and the present on the plate. On the Way of St. James you can get to know a piece of nature and culture from South Tyrol. There are numerous places to stop for refreshments and overnight accommodation in the towns visited. Nevertheless, it is advisable to book in advance and get a pilgrim pass. The various local tourism associations will help pilgrims prepare for the Camino de Santiago. 1st stage of the Way of St. James: Winnebach to Welsberg 5:00 hrs. 2nd stage Jakobsweg: Welsberg to Bruneck 4:30 hrs. 3rd stage of the Way of St. James: Bruneck to Niedervintl 4:45 hrs. 4th stage of the Way of St. James: Niedervintl to Franzensfeste 4:
