This hikes takes you from "Plagrast" to the beginning of Wöllaner rock summit and further to the main summit of Wöllaner rock summit- you can fit in a culinary trip to Geiger Hut if you are hungry!

Author’s recommendation

The street to the Wöllaner rock summit is a toll road- on your walk down we recommend that you take a detour to the Fichte candelabra in Laastadt.

Turn-by-turn directions

The starting point for this hike around the Wöllaner rock summit is "Plagrast," 1800 meters above sea level.  From here you follow the road uphill until "Fliegerkurve"- in the right conditions you can observe model airplanes being flown here.  At this curve you leave the toll road and follow the path marked 164 (part of the Alpa-Adria-Trail).  This path is quite steep at first but flattens out as you get closer to the Wöllaner rock summit (2090 meters).  The path now takes you over a large hollow to the north to the main summit (2145 meters).  The descent follows path number 163 to "Walder Hütte" (open) and further to Geiger Hut (open).  From there you take the main road back to the parking lot in Plagrast.

Aufzug einer gewaltigen Gewitterfront mit Hagel. War unglaublich eindrucksvoll.

We liked the tour a lot. The vista is impressive in all directions. You will walk on compact paved semi roads (suitable for cars) and partially on small barely visisble footpaths. Eating at Geigerhütte is highly recommended, because the food is excellent and inexpensive. Note: To reach the start point, you need to drive there through Arriach/Oberwöllan, then using a 7 km toll road for a price 6 EUR at time of writing (if you current use Google navigator will also offer an alternate route through Laarstadt, which will be impassible for normal cars).
