Walking between Cologna Veneta and Zimella, landscapes made of land and water
A pleasant walk between two villages of the Veronese plain, along the Guà River, in a beautiful environmental and natural setting to admire wide views and memories of the passages of ancient civilizations
A pleasant walk in the green between two villages of the Venetian plain in the beautiful countryside not far from Verona, surrounded by rural landscapes and historical ruins.
You can start from the city of Cologna Veneta, where the current Town Hall (once an ancient castle) protects the past splendours of famous medieval seigneuries: from the Este to the Scaliger, from the Visconti to the Carraresi of Padua. The itinerary continues along the Guà River, one of the protagonists of this trail. Water element will surprise you as well as the soil of the plain and its extensive cultivations that, on clear days, offer breath-taking views ranging from the Euganean Hills to the Dolomites.
The arrival in Zimella will leave you speechless. There, you will find a piece of industrial archaeology: an ancient mill dating back to 1824 driven by 5 water wheels, which, thanks to the current of the Guà River, used to move 4 millstones.
The itinerary can be enjoyed all year round but it is recommended during the second week of December during the famous Nougat Festival, a Christmas cake typical of Cologna Veneta. The event has obtained the "Quality Festival" certification from the National Pro Loco Union of Italy.
