Via the Oswald Promenade to Runkelstein Castle

The Oswald Promenade is a panoramic path that runs through vineyards high above the roofs of Bolzano. It bears the name of the church of St. Oswald, which was destroyed in the Second World War and whose ruins are now a listed building. Our circular walk takes us past vines up to St. Magdalena, which welcomes us with its wineries. From here we set off on the Oswald Promenade, which leads us uphill on a well-paved path and steadily affords us a wonderful view over the city of Bolzano and its surrounding countryside. It also gives us information about the local flora and fauna on information boards at regular intervals and commemorates Karl Ritter von Müller, an architect and great son of the city of Bolzano, with a commemorative plaque. Afterwards, our path leads us to Runkelstein Castle. In the fortress complex, which dates back to the 13th century, we marvel at the well-preserved buildings and also at the largest secular fresco cycle of the Middle Ages, because of which Runkelstein
