A ten-minute transfer brings you to the Santa Croce chair lift. Ride the chairlift to the Heilige Kreuz church (2,045m) nestled at the foot of the impressive sheer face of the Kreuzhofel. Follow undulating paths through peaceful forests and fields, passing traditional dairy farms. Arrive at Rit Mountain Hut, another great opportunity to stop for a refreshing drink and take in the views. From here it is all downhill to La Val. Walk through impeccable hamlets with wooden chalets brimming with colourful flowers. La Val is off the main valley road, giving it a peaceful, untouched ambience. It is also an official ‘hiking village’, meaning it has been recognised for the quality of its trails and amenities.

Safety information

Today you may be walking past a few different areas where cows graze. Although generally very docile and used to walkers, keep your distance and never turn your back on a cow that is behaving strangely or aggressive. Be particularly vigilant around cows with calves.

Watch the short term local weather forecasts. Avoid high altitude hiking when the weather is bad. There are plenty of trails in the valleys, that allow you to reach a village quickly if bad weather sets in.

La Val

Turn-by-turn directions

Take the Santa Croce and La Crusc chairlifts up from Badia to Santa Croce (2,045 m). If you would like a slight detour you are just a few minutes walk from the pilgrimage church of La Crusc/Santa Croce (2,045 m), right at the foot of the Sas dla Crusc/Sasso di Santa Croce Mountain.

Return back to trail no. 15B as you follow it through the mountains passing through vast alpine meadows, the trail changes to no 13A. You will reach a fork in the road at Pasca, bear left and continue on trail  no13and follow the trail till you reach the Crusc de Rit.

Enjoy the panoramic views from the Crusc de Rit as you overlook the Val Badia to the south, and the Valpusteria and Austrian peaks in the north.

As you walk through stretches of forest and wide pastures, the exceptional views of the majestic rock faces of the Sas Dalesc Desc, the Sas Dales Nu and the Ju de Sant Antone are sure to make you smile and unwind as you make your way into the village of La Val. The village of La Val (La Valle) offers a suggestive and picturesque natural landscape - it is one of the less known locations of the Alta Badia. Here the culture and nature merge one in the other and the result is a perfect symbiosis.

We recommend wearing hiking boots that are well broken-in, plus a rain jacket and waterproof trousers in wet weather, as well as taking sun cream and a hat on nicer days.

In your information pack, you’ll find a detailed list of all the required hiking gear, including some good hiking boots, appropriate clothing, a rain jacket and a backpack.
