To St. Jacob near Grissian
Gorgeous tour from Nals to Prissian in the lower Adige valley.
Start in the centre of the village of Nals. From here into Goldgasse and immediately to the left at the Bäckerei, you take the Nachtigallensteig. After about half an hour's walk and 130 m of ascent, you reach the road to Sirmian. From here, follow marker no. 9, partly on the road, partly descending on a good path, past Payersberg Castle and up to Obersirmian and St. Apollonia (from Nals about 2 hours). As soon as you reach the tarmac road and the car park of St. Apollonia, cross it straight on and take trail no. 8 in a wide right-hand bend to the church of St. Jakob bei Grissian. Here you cross the famous Grissianer Bach stream, which in 2000 caused an enormous landslide and covered the village of Nals below with approximately 120,000 square metres of material. The 9-hectare quarry site above the hiking trail has been under constant surveillance ever since. Once you reach the churchyard of St. Jakob, path no. 8 leads down from Grissian to Prissian.
