Through the adventurous Rastenbachklamm gorge

From the car park, first hike up through deciduous forest, following the signs to "Rastenbachklamm". Then take the Bärental path (marker 13). From the next sign ("Rastenbachklamm"), the trail leads through the gorge itself, an exciting and challenging biotope of wild beauty that makes the heart of adventurous hikers beat faster. Some rocky sections have to be overcome, footbridges have to be walked over and along the Altenburgbach, bridges have to be crossed and steep stairs (partly open risers) have to be climbed. Some of the stairs are made of gratings, one of the bridges is a suspension bridge. The trail also leads to the foot of an impressive waterfall, whose narrow cascade plunges some 30 metres into the depths. After about an hour and around 250 metres in altitude, you first reach the early Christian ruins of St. Peter's Church and finally Altenburg (615 m) itself, the highest fraction of the municipality of Kaltern.
