The Zirog High Trail
From Hühnerspiel near Gossensaß to the Brenner Region
Ascent: From Gossensa; (1080 m) always follow trail no. 22 eastwards under the motorway up to Hochwiedenhof and continue on trail no. 22 in serpentines largely through the forest up to the Hühnerspielhütte (1868 m; summer management; just under 2½ hours). Höhen trail: From the Hühnerspielhütte on the Höhen trail (Mark. 11) north-west, partly level, partly descending briefly to the mountain meadows of the upper Daxalm, then in several ups and downs crossing the steep forest slopes to the extensive Ziroger Alm (1762 m, bar) and up to the Enzianhütte (1903 m; refuge, open almost all year; from Hühnerspiel a good 2 hours). Then continue along trail no. 11 on a largely good path in a very slightly descending slope crossing north-west and, past the somewhat lower Gröbneralm, through forest tracks to the small Lueger Alm pasture by a stream ditch (1601 m; 1 hour from Enzianhütte); 3 hours from Hühnerspiel.
