The Maiser Waalweg to Saltaus
Even Maiser Waalweg, running through wooded slopes and orchards, with a view of Merano.
From the fountain square in Obermais (370 m) first to Planta Castle, where you enter the signposted Waalweg (irrigation channel path), which cannot be missed; first through orchards to the Sonnwendhof farm, then on the irrigation channel path, which is secured by railings, a little later across the rocky slopes of a gorge-like ditch, then on the now always good irrigation channel path mostly through tree cover; Then continue along the now always good Waal path, mostly through trees, on a level surface to the Waalerhaus, partly through meadows and orchards to the Torgglerhof (inn in the wide, large valley floor) and along its access road, soon crossing the Passer river, to Saltaus (490 m); from the starting point 2–2:30 hrs. Return to the starting point: The best way is to take the bus, which runs several times a day between Saltaus and Obermais/Meran.
