Dense forests and sunny grassland knolls
Two popular hiking destinations under the Sciliar (Schlern) Massif

Approach is from Blumau or Waidbruck to Fié allo Sciliar (Völs am Schlern), and then continuing on to the village of Umes (Ums) at 930 metres; parking on the outskirts of town. From there, follow trail markings (No. 3), first along a residential access road on sloping meadows and then continuing along a marked footpath (No. 3) through forested slopes, in quite a straight shot up to the Hofer Alpl farm (1,340 m; Alm tavern); about 1.5 hours from Umes. From the little farm, follow signs for Völser Weiher Pond along a trail through the forest, which is mostly flat, north to the broad Schlernweg Trail (marked 1), which sometimes has a light grade and is sometimes very steep down to the Tuffalm alpine farm (1,270 m, serves food). Take the old paved road (still marked No. 1) down to Huberweiher Pond and continue almost all the way to Volser Weiher Pond (1,056 m; food service; 1 hour from Hofer Alpl). Just before reaching the pond, take a sharp left and follow Trail No. 2 through the forest,
