Start out at Halsl, at an elevation of 1,860 m: streets cross here that lead to Bressanone (Brixen) in the west and Val Badia (Gadertal) Valley in the east; restaurants; parking areas. Follow trail markings (No. 4/8) along a good footpath through stands of Swiss stone pine and clearings, up to an intersection with the access road (1,980 m; from here, you can take a 20-minute detour west to Schatzerhütte mountain hut). Take the access road east to the Enzianhütte mountain hut (1,967 m; serves food; 30 minutes from Halsl). To extend this short hike into a longer loop, I recommend the following route back to Halsl: From Enzianhütte, take the broad path, which has no number but is well marked, crossing flat through alpine pastures and stands of Swiss stone pine east to Tatscher Alm alpine pastures (there are huts just above the trail but no food service). Continue along the trail, which becomes more challenging at a certain point, through the woods and across a clearing, down into a
