Turn-by-turn directions
We take a curious basket lift from the hamlet of Vellau to the Leitneralm at 1522 m. Our hike begins on trail no. 24 towards Hochgang-Schutzhaus. Once there, we climb via the steep trail no. 7 to an altitude of 2441 m to the Hochgangscharte. Caution! - The ascent is via ladders and iron chains and is definitely only suitable for experienced hikers who are free from giddiness. Once at the top, the view opens up to the emerald green water jewels of Langsee, Grünsee and Mückensee. We walk along the shores of the lakes and at Grünsee take the turnoff to trail no. 22, which leads to Kasersee and Pfitschersee. Finally, we hike over steep serpentines to the Pfitschersattel and on trail no. 25 back to the Leitner Alm.
