Short mountain hike near San Cassiano (St. Kassian) in Val Badia

From San Cassiano (St. Kassian), drive past the Armentarola Hotel and turn left onto the little road that leads to Plan da l'Ega Tavern (1,725 m) where you can park your car. Follow Trail No. 20, and keep right at the first fork. Initially, the path runs flat through the forest, into a little valley; then there are several switchbacks up to the green meadows of Lagazuoi Alm mountain pasture, where you'll find the   privately run Scotoni Hütte mountain hut (1,985 m; hiking time to this point is approximately 45 minutes). Keep on Trail No. 20  as it leads steeply up the mountain. After 40 minutes, you'll reach another fork. Keep left to reach the lake (2,182 m); total hiking time is a half hour. The way back is exactly the same, but shorter by 30 minutes since it is downhill.
