Waalweg and pilgrimage
Waalweg walk to the pilgrimage church in Riffian

The ascent begins in the centre of Riffian next to the Kreuz inn through the hollow alley. Soon you will find signs for the "Waalweg" and "Rösslsteig". It is quite a steep climb, but the ascent is not long. At the last house on the left of the path, you will find the sign "Waalweg" on a tool shed to the left and right. We climb a few steps to the right and are already on the Waalweg at a chapel. The path winds its way into the valley on its usual level course until, at a fork, a sign points down to the right: "Wallfahrtskirche" (pilgrimage church). Follow this sign and after a short descent you come to the above-mentioned pilgrimage church. From there we follow the paved access path, flanked by Stations of the Cross, towards the village. It is better not to follow the sign for pedestrians on the left down to the main road, but to stay on the pilgrimage path. Once on the main road, we have no more than 100 metres to walk back to the car or to the bus stop.
