The postman brought the mail to the Val Gardena valley on the old postal footpath until the road connection was built.
Starting point is the main square of Ortisei in Grön. Walk through the pedestrian zone and further west into Bahnhofstrasse. From here follow the Poststeig ( P ) markings into Nevelstrasse. After about 30 minutes from the starting point, a narrow, roughly paved path branches off to the right. Follow this to the edge of the forest, then into the forest and through the rockfall above Pontives. This section of the trail is basically easy to walk, but you need to be sure-footed and careful because of the steep slopes. Once this section has been completed, very easy sections follow on paved paths and small asphalted roads, which lead in moderate ups and downs through the hamlets of St. Peter and Tschöfas to Lajen. The descent to the bus stop in Lajen Ried takes about 30 minutes along the Gorneggweg.
