On the billet path to the Sesselschwaige
From the pretty mountain village of Ums at the foot of the Schlern, the circular hike begins by walking through beautiful mountain forest in about an hour up to the wonderfully situated, rustic Hoferalpl mountain inn. Continuing uphill, we reach the path coming from the Tuffalm and hike along the slope to the Peter Frag rest area. Here begins the most beautiful part of the hike, the ascent on numerous wooden bridges through the wildly romantic Schlern Gorge, bordered by steep walls. Even today, the farmers of Völser still drive their cattle up this path to the Schlern alpine pastures every year in early summer. Finally, the gorge widens and we reach our destination, the Sesselschwaige, beautifully situated in the midst of mountain meadows. From the alpine pasture, which is open to visitors, we hike back down through the Schlern Gorge, but then decide on a different descent option.
