An easy track with wonderful views of lago Maggiore, small villages and old churches until the nice town of Cannero riviera.

This route is part of Via delle Genti, a walk that starts in Verbania and arrives at San Bartolomeo, a small village close to Switzerland. Via delle Genti is quite long (around 30 km) so I decided to "taste" a part of it: from Novaglio to Cannero riviera.

Author’s recommendation

I think that the warm season (from April to September) is the best part of the year fot his experience.

There will be more light, more flowers (nature will be blooming around you) and because during those months all the activities (bar, restaurants, B&B...) will be available so, during your walk, you could overnight, have meals or simply have a cup of coffee in some of the tiny villages that you'll crossing.

I accomplished my part of the track in first days of January and, honestly, it was almost impossible to find an open bar.

If you would like to repeat this track maybe reach Novaglio by bus could be difficult.

If you would like to start from Verbania-Intra instead is truly easy.

In general there is a bus service that serve the town on the lake side (Verbania-Intra, Ghiffa, Oggebbio, Cannero, Cannobio).

In spring and summer, and probably until October, there is the boat option that could take you from/back to Verbania. You should check on Navigazione Lago Maggiore to check the timetable and the availabilty.

Equipment

The track is quite simple so I don't think that you will need any special equipment. Maybe mountains boots and trekking sticks if you would be feel yourself safer.

Due to the fact that you will pass accross several villages fresh water is easy to find. Each town will have it's fountains.

In summet a good sunlotion could be truly useful.

This looks like a lovely walk! But is there a bus to take you from the village/town back? We have to car. Also, without a map is this possible? Is this walk described in an app?

Good afternoon Pam, There is bus that connects Cannero to Verbania and that stops at Oggebbio and Ghiffa. So, if you would like to leave your car in the same place where I left mine (in front of Novaglio church) once back to Ghiffa or Oggebbio by bus you will have to walk back to your car. Both places are not too much far. Another option could be simply to leave your car in Ghiffa or Oggebbio and, once arrive at Cannero, take the bus back to one of these two towns. I think that without a map is possible to follow this path because there are several indication. If you want you could visit this website: https://www.piemonteoutdoor.it/it/attivita/escursionismo/delle-genti Here there is a description of the entire Via delle Genti, a 30km track that starts from Verbania and arrives at San Bartolomeo ( the last town before the border with Switzerland).
