This really is the walk that is suitable for everyone, adults and children, families with pushchairs and anyone wanting a peaceful walk with their dog. Along the gentle and shady path that weaves through the wood along the old “lez” (in local dialect the old village aqueduct) half way up the mountain, the panoramic views over the Alta Val di Non and the village below are not to be missed.

Author’s recommendation

Once you get to Lake Dovena the view is incredible - the whole valley opens up offering a perspective at 180°!

Near the starting point you will find the Arnica Refuge open from March until November where you can enjoy excellent local dishes or a classic pizza.

Along the path you will find benches where you can stop for a rest. In hotter months take some water with you.

Turn-by-turn directions

After parking your car at the Arnica Refuge head down the asphalt road that you just travelled along for about 1 kilometre. On the left hand side of the road, you can see the start of the wide path through the woods leading to the new water basin above the village of Dovena. The route is flat and does not branch off. It is the path that travels along the old irrigation channel above the village. During the walk you can stop off and sit on comfortable benches near the path and admire the panoramic views. The path ends overlooking the residential area of the village of Dovena. The new water basin is located here, a large sunny lake that you can walk around (it is totally fenced off). This lake is totally fenced off and borders onto the tall rocky wall of the deep canyon of Mondino. There is a fantastic view from here right across the whole valley.

To return, you travel back along the same path.

By road

The route takes you along the municipal road that leads from Catelfondo /Raina – Borgo D’Anaunia to the village of Regola di Castelfondo where the Arnica Refuge is located.

Parking

You can park conveniently near the Arnica Refuge.
