Alpine lakes
Hike amidst the fir trees of the Valletta di Scàleres (Schalderertal) Valley and its two lakes surrounded by rocks, alpine roses, flowering meadows, grass pastures and dark mountain forests.

From Varna (Vahrn), drive up the little Valletta di Scàleres (Schalderertal) Valley to Scàleres (Schalders). From there or from the lower situated, former baths, Bagni di Scàleres (Bad Schalders) ar approx. 1,100 m:  follow signs for the Schrüttenseen Lakes, passing the Lenznerhöfl farm. At the junction (note: ignore Trail No. 7 leading to the Malga Ochsenalm alpine pasture), keep right on the wide valley path through the coniferous forest along the stream into the valley. Continue until you reach the bridge. Turn left at the bridge, still following signs for the Schrüttenseen Lakes on the footpath, a moderately steep hike through forest slopes, up to Lago Gelato Grande (Großer Schrüttensee) Lake (1,957m; 2.5 hours from Bagni di Scàleres). Descent: Return using the same trail; about 2 hours.
